On this page I, would like to publish practices and concepts developed by men in the name of Islam.
‘Eid-ul-Fitr’ and ‘Eid-ul-Azha’ are innovations in the name of Islam. These two events are not mentioned in the Qur’an, the Book of God. ‘Eid-ul-Azha’ is also known as ‘Bakhri Eid’ in many countries. On this day, members of muslim community all over the world sacrifice animals , one or many as per their whims and fancies thus disturbing the ecologigal balance. Also, this kind of sacrifice is taken to be the one that lessens the burden of vices. All these actions and thoughts are innovations and has no link with the Divine teachings of the Qur’an. The Qur’an is a book that gives ways to a value system making possible a respectful and honorable co-existence and is not a book of rites, rituals & festivals.
Shabe Meraj ( The night of ascention of prophet Mohammad )
On every year members of muslim community celebrate ‘Shabe Meraj’, a special night in which ritual prayers are being conducted in masjids besides the normal 5 times congregational prayers in rememberance of the event that is said to have taken place centuries back. Prophet Mohammad is said to have been lifted by Allah to heaven for the purpose of certain discussions, and the journey was made with the help of a heavenly animal called Buraq. At first, the prophet was taken to the sacred mosque at Jerusalem known as Al-Aqsa and then he conducted and lead a congregational prayer with all the 1,24,000 prophets and then taken to heaven for the purpose of meeting with Allah. The present day form of ritual prayers 5 times a day is an outcome of the said meeting and which has no connection with the establishment of ‘Salaat’ as discussed in Qur’an.
This is an innovation in the name of Islam.
The Qur’an does not support this view. There is no single verse that has expressed this kind of view. The verses which are often quoted to support the above view of ascention are as follows:–
The Qur’an, Chapter 17, Verse No.1.
Who did take His Servant
For a Journey by night
From the Sacred Mosque
Towards the Farthest Mosque
Whose precincts We did
Bless,-in order that We
Might show him some
Of Our Signs: for He
Is the One Who heareth”
The Arabic word used for ‘The Fathest Mosque’ is ‘Al-Aqsa’ and the name of the mosque at Jerusalem is also ‘Al-Aqsa’. The ‘Al-Aqsa’ at Jerusalem has been constructed in the period of Hazrat Omar, the second caliph of Muslim Empire. This particular mosque was not there at the time of Prophet Muhammad. Also, the succeeding verses in the same chapter doesnot indicate the ascention of the prophet to Heaven.
The Qur’an, Chapter 53, Verse No.13 to 15.
“For indeed he saw Him
At a second descent,
Near the Lote- tree
Of the utmost boundary
Near it is the Garden
The translation of the verses 13,14,15 of Chapter 53 of the Qur’an as cited above is wrongly understood and mistranslated, the meanings of the said verses is as follows:-
“ And indeed he saw in his mind the coming down of a new era, close in maturity like the ripened fruit of Sidra (cedar). On that occasion he concealed the reflection in his mind like a pregnant woman conceals the embryo within”
Hence the entire concept of ‘Shabe Meraj’ is an innovation in the name of islam and is counter to reason. Allah in the Qur’an suggests to not accept anything that is counter to reason.
